Chapter One — The Accidental Baker What began as a weekend hobby in a cramped kitchen on Blick Views became an obsession. Bread, then pastries, then celebration cakes. Each loaf taught a lesson; each failed batch sharpened instinct. Bake Right Choice was never planned — it was pulled into existence by the people who tasted the results and refused to let it stay a hobby.

The Timeline — How We Got Here

Spring 2018

First Sourdough Starter Named "Mabel"

A wild-yeast culture captured from the air of rural Iowa. Mabel is still alive and active in every loaf we produce today — over six years of continuous fermentation.

Autumn 2019

First Paid Order — A Wedding Cake for the Clarks

Three tiers, lemon-elderflower sponge, hand-piped buttercream botanicals. The Clarks still order their anniversary cake from us every October. "Nobody else gets the lemon right." — Fiona Clark

January 2020

The Saturday Market Stall

A folding table, a hand-lettered sign, and 40 loaves. We sold out in 55 minutes. The next week we brought 80 — sold out in 70 minutes. Demand was relentless.

Summer 2021

Dedicated Bakehouse Opens

We converted a garage into a licensed commercial kitchen. A stone deck oven, a 20-quart mixer, proper proofing cabinets. The first real investment — and the first time we could bake more than 30 items in a single session.

March 2023

Online Ordering Goes Live

bakerightchoice.digital launched. Within three months, weekly orders tripled. Customers from across Iowa began scheduling celebration cakes, pastry boxes, and artisan bread subscriptions.

Today — 2025

Six Years of Craft, Still Growing

We now serve recurring bread subscribers, bespoke wedding and event clients, corporate gifting accounts, and walk-up customers at the Juanahaven farmers' market every Saturday.

Common Questions

How far in advance should I order a celebration cake?

We recommend at least two weeks for standard designs and four weeks for elaborate multi-tier or sculpted cakes. Rush orders may be possible depending on our schedule — just ask.

Do you deliver outside Juanahaven?

Yes. We deliver across most of Iowa for orders above a minimum value. Delivery fees depend on distance. Local Juanahaven deliveries within 10 miles are complimentary on orders over a certain threshold.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

We offer gluten-free bread and cakes, dairy-free options, and reduced-sugar variants. Please mention any allergies or requirements in your request and we'll advise on what's possible.

What is included in a weekly bread subscription?

Subscribers receive a freshly baked loaf every week — you choose your rotation from sourdough, rye, whole wheat, or our seasonal special. Subscriptions are flexible; pause or cancel anytime.
